I use pigments with varying fluidity, and in the process of letting them flow, visual images emerge. The composition is constantly evolving, shifting between figurative and abstract forms, sometimes moving back and forth up to 40 times, layer by layer. I want the canvas to record the act of painting itself. Although my work often suggests landscapes, I do not paint nature to replicate what the eye sees. Instead, I explore landscape imagery for its expressive potential and its unique emotional language. I seek to discover the poetry in a solitary tree or a passing cloud, and to communicate that poetry through paint.
